"Epigenetics is mastery — you have power over your biology," says author and lecturer Bruce Lipton of Santa Cruz, a former medical school professor and author of "The Biology of Belief." He says that changes in behavior are enough to reprogram your genes via chemicals that affect gene activity in the short term.

The placebo effect, Lipton says, is a prime example of taking control over biology. Believe a medicine will work and the brain turns up genes that make you feel better, he says. Conversely, he adds, negative feelings such as stress can shut off immunity genes and make a person more susceptible to disease.
"The mind is directly connected to the genetics," he says.
Mark Sisson, an independent health researcher in Malibu, is another epigenetics-you-can-use proponent. Sisson, owner of a dietary supplement company called Primal Nutrition and the author of "The Primal Blueprint," says the key to health is figuring out what turns on good genes and turns off bad ones.

this reminds me of What the Bleep do we Know? which "posits a spiritual connection between quantum physics and consciousness" specificaly their theories on the functions of neuropeptides. most of itwas disregarded by many experts as pseudoscience. and i have no real opinion on it aside from a hesitation to turn science into a religion. but it is interesting to see a similar theory come up again.
went to do a bit of googling before posting it appears that Burce Lipton runs in the same website and lecture circles as Amit Goswami (one of the people who worked on what the bleep and a big name in theoretical physics and quantum evolution/spirituality). this is not presented to debunk or anyhthing like that but just to show where these theories are emerging from.
my mother is a huge fan of this and i believe she has gone to see Dr. Goswami lecture that the only reason i know about any of this!

New Agers have always believed we create our own reality. I believe that too. I'm just not sure how much we impact on a deeper level.
There is no doubt how I perceive the world will affect how I interact with the world, thus the outcomes will be affected. If I view the world as hostile toward me, I'll experience fewer good outcome from opportunities as they arise because I will be fearful of them. The more positive I am toward new opportunities and the world in general, the more I will experience a good result.
But does that change me at the cellular level? I think it is possible. I'm willing to entertain the idea.
I think this would also correlate to baby geniuses being born with innate talents. Mozart was writing complex music at age five. Was he born with that talent or did he learn it from his father? Both? Some scientists believe in genetic memory now, where both the innate talents and learned skills of one generation is passed on to the next via genetics.
If reincarnation is real, this would be a handy way for souls to "park" things they'll need in the next life in our DNA so they can pick up where they left off from the last life. It could also be part of evolution and why the kids born today are so much more sophisticated than their parents or grandparents.
Interesting possibilities to ponder.

This entirely. It pains me when people I care about can't grasp this. Even if you can't "positive think" or "visualize" your problems away you can still aproach them differently and make your lafe better in the ways you can control.
I get these "notes from the universe" in my email every day and they keep me on track :) http://www.tut.com/theclub/
As to the more "new age" science, again science cannot = religion to me but I am intrested in any research they are doing on the subject. Proof of anything is more exciting to me than belief :)

Yogis have been doing this for many generations. It is amazing how much control the mind has over our bodies.

That's true. Hadn't thought of them in relation to this article, but that's a good path to look into.

How fascinating! I can't wait to hear of further study in this field being done. It sounds logical.

I think the to wait on Science is ludicrous. The path of the Yoga's, and other spiritual science groups have already documented the way on this. The article speaks of how our "thinking" has power over genes, such things as prayer, meditation, chanting, and trance brings us to the mastery of Self.
In other words, it's not something Science needs to discover in the future, it's something we need to return to in the past. There will be no "miracle pill/drug" for this...
The reality is most of us are afraid on what's inside of us.

in my opinion the placebo dosn't work on the sick future health is in electronics.
