Who's not laughing? South Carolina Democrats.
The state's open primary allows Democrats and independents to vote in the Republican primary and Colbert earlier this week called on his home state supporters to cast votes for Cain.

I love this. If he was coming to California, I'd be there. I'm also loving the fact the political establishment and the media don't know what to do about it. Look at the highlighted portion of this text from another article (highlight is mine). "Many suspect"....ROTFLOL. They don't know?

http://www.globalpost.com/dispatch/news/regions/americas/united-states/120120/stephen-colbert-and-herman-cain-stump-south-ca-0

Mr. Colbert’s entrance into the race is in name only. He is not on the ballot in South Carolina, but a Super PAC he founded has been spending money on advertising in the state, alternately advocating for and against Stephen Colbert. A recent ad attacked Colbert and told voters to vote for Herman Cain.

Many suspect that Colbert has been using his face time to ridicule the controversial Supreme Court decision known as “Citizens United,” which said that corporations are people and as such have a right to unlimited spending for political speech.

There's video at this link, btw.

I don't understand why they would be upset. The only Democratic candidate running for President in South Carolina is President Obama. It's not like Colbert is going to get the President's delegates at the Democratic convention. The only apple cart he can upset is the GOP.

Am I wrong on this?

The article explained why. Apparently its about independents getting on the GOP's mailing lists, and DEMS voting in the REP primary, which makes them ineligible to vote in the DEM primary which is later this month.

Right. But how is that a problem?

From the article:

The Democrats' concerns are no laughing matter. Voting for Colbert via Cain would stir up the voter files, likely landing Democrats' contacts in Republican fundraising and mailing databases.

Right. Because this information is not available already in the phone book?

Email addresses wouldn't be in phone books. That's what they prefer to have today.

They only "suspect" this? ;)

I cracked up when I read that.

I just heard a news clip from his rally today (which, at around 8,000 people, was larger than any of the candidates). Someone asked him if he was just doing this for laughs. He ran with it, saying if he was, then everything about the Super Pacs was for laughs. Can't remember his exact words, but it was hysterical.

It just strikes me as a "If you need to ask, you'll never know" sort of things.

Oh, I love Colbert.

You're right. If they need to ask....

Can't wait to see the clips on the Daily Show and Colbert Report tonight.

I hope everyone in SC votes Cain/Colbert. Too bad ballots don't have a "none of the above" option

I've often wished for a "none of the above" option. I think they won't allow it because no one would ever get elected -- which might not be a bad idea. LOL

When I find myself longing for a "none of the above" option, I vote for Hillary. Works just as well.

Some of us will be voting for Obama--again. ;-)

I think what Colbert is doing is fantastic. He is pulling the veil away from Citizens United and the hypocrisy of PACs and SuperPACs. The fact that a candidate can't communicate with either a PAC or SuperPAC is lunacy, and that is just what he is showing. SCOTUS screwed up big time on this one, and now, even congressional representatives are agreeing. When it's used against you, you come away with a different attitude!

I remember well when President Obama was delivering a State of the Union address, the Supreme Court Justices were sitting in the front row, and Obama said, "Last week, the Supreme Court reversed a century of law that I believe will open the floodgates for special interests - including foreign corporations - to spend without limit in our elections." Justice Alito was seen frowning and mouthing the words "not true" when Obama criticized the Supreme Court.

Oh? And just what has happened?

Still - it's priceless to see Jon Stewart with a crown on.

LOL. I loved that segment, and the facts it skewed for all to see. How insane is it that money donated for a campaign can be used to buy expensive baubles for the head of the Super Pac?

The TV bobble heads are saying Wall Street is very unhappy about Romney running because his opponents are revealing how the taxpayer is getting screwed by their practices.

I'm hoping this electoral season will see voters become educated about all this and end with them demanding new laws.

Quite a lot of us SC Dems find it funny as hell. We get it.

You can't believe everything you read about SC. You can't always count on polls and surveys when it comes to SC.

I knew things were going to change for Romney. Y'all just have to trust people who know SC politics. That usually calls for SC Dems.

I'm a So CAL REP and think it's funnier than all hell. I hope he keeps it up this time around and comes to my state. He didn't last time. Sigh. We never get in on the electoral fun.
