Mimi Alford has officially broken her silence and recounts details of her affair with John F. Kennedy in her memoir, Once Upon a Secret: My Affair With President John F. Kennedy and its Aftermath. The book is to be released Wednesday but the New York Post apparently got a copy at a Manhattan bookstore and reveals lots of salacious details.

Mimi Alford, then Mimi Beardsley, interned at the White House in the summer of 1962, quickly caught the president’s eye. The 19-year-old joined the 45-year-old president for a noon swim four days into her internship. Later that day, he took her virginity in “Mrs. Kennedy’s room.”
“After he finished, he hitched up his pants and smiled at me.” Alford says their sex life was “varied and fun” and describes an affair that was more than just sex. They apparently spent an “inordinate amount of time taking baths” and listened to music together. He confided in her during key personal and professional moments, such as when his infant son died and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. But he never kissed her on the lips.
At one point, during another noon swim, Kennedy allegedly asked Alford to “take care” of an aide. He watched as she performed oral sex on him. Kennedy ended up apologizing to both of them. At a later date, Kennedy asked her to “take care of my baby brother,” meaning Ted Kennedy, during a Democratic fund-raiser. She refused.

But he never kissed her on the lips.
Now there's a man who wants to be totally detached from the woman he's doing & place her soundly in the class of *object*. It's like in Pretty Woman where Julia Roberts initially tells Richard Gere, "No kissing". Kissing is an extremely intimate act that creates an aura of closeness.
So rather than using kissing to seduce her, what did he do in Jackie's BR? Just say, "Hey baby, wanna get laid?" Seems a bit bizarre to have sex w/o kissing b4, during, & after. This man wanted no emotional closeness whatsoever.

LOL. Yeah, lots of people are going to be upset she published this, even though it's long been known she had an affair with him, and he bedded lots of women while in the White House.

The are many women both conservative and democratic who have husbands who are smart powerful and slut biscuits and there are more then enough female slut buckets who happily accommodate such proclivities. Trust but verify I always say and when in doubt carry a snub nose 38. I call her my peacemaker. LOL!

Encourage cheap shots about him being Catholic. Real classy Loretta.

On his wifes freaking bed....wow that is low. For some reason I can't take myself out of Jackies shoes when I think of that. I wonder if she knew he wasn't faithful? I hope she was going all willy nilly screwing guys on HIS bed!!
- 5 votes
She was going to divorce him before he became president. She was talked out of it, some say by a boatload of money, because of his presidential ambitions.
I suspect she knew while they were together. She definitely knew after his death because the whole nation was informed about it.

I'm actually hoping that's true because then I wouldn't feel as bad for her lol
And I still hope she had a couple men on his bed haha

Regrettably, probably not. She was too good a person to do that. I never understood exactly why JFK was not more attracted to her. She was such a beautiful, intelligent, and elegant woman. I would have found no problem in being faithful and devoted to her. Hopefully, she was oblivious to his infidelity... however, somehow I doubt this was the case. She was nobody's fool!

Sadly some guys, no matter how beautiful or intelligent their woman is they want to enjoy some strange. They like the thrill of having someone different. "No one likes eating the same thing for the rest of their life" mentality

Women have always been considered one of the perks of power.

Actually, the women become interns with hopes "feeling" some of that power.

Well, technically, it just says, in her BR. Not necessarily on her bed. Could've been a chaise or sofa in there. Heck, he could've done her up against the wallpaper.
Regrettably, probably not. She was too good a person to do that.
Jackie had tons of affairs. Did you forget she was openly living w/ a married man for over 15 yrs when she died?

I read another article where she said it was on her bed, could have just been assuming in that article possibly?

Wow! She must have felt SO special... kinda like a public bathroom. I think I just threw up a little...

You know I heard a lot of prostitutes, strippers, and escorts won't kiss their clients either and save that for their boyfriend or husbands. Maybe he saved his kisses for Jackie

In that era, any young woman who was unmarried and not a virgin was trash. When he took her virginity, he knew he was destroying her future and her reputation. That he further devaued her by making her service other men while he watched was a deliberate depravity meant to degrade her as far as possible.
It's hard to convey how much harm this inflicted upon her, both psychologially and in the eyes of society because of the attitudes toward women's sexuality that prevailed then.

Typical victim facilitation. First of all before you start crying victim, "that era" as you put it did not have that view of virginity. In less than five years it was the summer of love. On the east coast women were even more sexually aware. Do you think the summer of love started the sexual revolution? It was the culmination of sexual change since the mid forties.
Actually, it was a safe bet that she could have sex with the president and it would be as much of secret as she wanted it to be. The ultimate on-the down- low sex. A married man with political power to lose and she had control.
Furthermore, in many women the self worth is measured by their sexual partners. It is the essence of groupies. She felt powerful and it boosted her self esteem. Please do not give me that victim, victim, victim whining. Your follow comment was full of estrogen.

Study victimology, it is very revealing especially with young women and powerful men. It is a trip. A man like JFK knows when a lady is making themselves available. She was old enough to know what she was getting into and it was exciting and she loved it.

Can we FINALLY stop idolizing JFK?

You can stop idolizing JFK or anyone you want. You are a big boy.
What is this "We" in you statement?
Do you need to have some hold your hand?

No. The assassination assured that. Besides, some people idolize men who abuse women with serial adultery. They think they're hot "studs."

I don't feel bad for Jackie. She knew early on that he strayed..and strayed often. That is not excusing his behavior, however she knew what she was getting into.
I feel sorry for his surviving child...to have to read this stuff on your dad. I don't care if he was President..it is still her father.

Sassy79, every president had sex with political groupies with the exception of Nixon(nobody could get that drunk).

Not every president. That's a rather sweeping generalization.
Thomas Jefferson's mistress certainly wasn't a *political groupie*; she was his slave. Other than that, the only whispers of adultery in POTUSes that I've heard are Grover Cleveland, FDR, JFK, & Clinton.

Don't forget Warren G. Harding. Nailed his 19 year old mistress in the White House closet.

Nan P. "Nanny" Britton (November 9, 1896–March 21, 1991) was a figure associated with the Presidency of Warren G. Harding due to her claim that Harding fathered her illegitimate daughter shortly before his election as President.
Born in Marion, Ohio, Britton developed an obsession with Harding, a friend of her father. As a girl, her bedroom walls were covered with images of Harding from local papers and magazine. While still less than 16 years old, she would also dawdle near his Marion Daily Star building in downtown Marion, Ohio hoping to bump into him on his walk home from work.
Her father, Dr. Britton, talked to Harding about his daughter's infatuation, and in turn, Harding spoke with the girl, assuring her that one day she would find the man of her dreams. At the time, Harding was involved in a very passionate affair with Carrie Fulton Phillips, wife of James Phillips, co-owner of Marion's Uhler-Phillips Company, a local department store. Following her graduation from Marion High School in 1914, Britton moved to New York City, where she hoped to start a career as a secretary.
Following Harding's death in 1923, Britton wrote what is considered to be the first kiss-and-tell book, The President's Daughter, published in 1927. In it, she claimed to have been his mistress before and during his presidency, and that Harding was the father of her daughter, Elizabeth Ann (1919–2005), who was later adopted by Britton's husband, Mr. Christian. One famous passage mentions their making love in a coat closet in the executive office of the White House.

When I think about some that think females should suck it up in cases of rape or incest it is obvious that there are men that believe women have no value. What does it say about our country when sexual abuse is accepted?

Nixon, Carter, Reagan, GW Bush, GHW Bush, Obama ... didn't nail their interns.

I watched an extended interview with her tonight. I liked her. She appeared to be honest and careful in what she said.
There is no doubt he deliberately sought her out as an intern (she never applied for the position and was totally surprised when it was offered to her), had his aides bring her to him, had his aides ply her with drinks and then took advantage of her. Mind you, that isn't how she described it, but that's what happened. She wasn't even sure what was happening while it was happening. She'd only kissed one boy one time before this happened.
And yet, she did not blame him or think he took advantage of her. That's the intellectual side of her. But the emotional side was revealing. She kept tearing up unexpectedly, showing there are unsettled emotions lurking behind the rationale. She didn't mention them, but Meridith did several times. When Meridith pointed them out, she denied they were important.
Meridith rightfully termed what she described as rape. She originally did not tell anyone right away (typical rape victim behavior) but when she told her friends a few months later, they too told her she'd been raped. Even then, she did not believe it was rape because she didn't actually say no out loud. (again, very typical victim behavior). After it was over, he simply left her to take care of herself and she was in shock, still not fully understanding what had happened.
Even after she left the White House internship and went back to colleg, he kept sending for her. She would do her homework on the plane that took her to be his bed partner, then be taken home again.
Very sad to hear and see, especially since she was being so generous toward him that she couldn't fully acknowledge her own feelings about it all.

If she feels "damaged" it is the consequences of personal over-ambition.
When feeling like you are on top of the world while denying to yourself that you are just another groupie, results in a bi-polar pendulum.
She writing about a self inflicted wound. She flew too close to the Sun.
Her book should be titled Icarus in the White House.
JFK was just a man, but he was a great man.

Men who abuse women?? This not about abuse.
Give proof.

This was a time when women were subservient to men. If a woman wanted a career it wasn't unusual for a male to expect favors. Men ruled and some women took the chance of being used by them. Ask any woman that was employed it the sixties and many will say they were propositioned over and over again and threatened by men in authority. JFK wasn't the only horn dog in politics and our state had Bob Packwood whom we referred to as "Perkerwood". They were allowed to get away with exploiting women as women had no rights are were worthless anyway and at their disposal nothing more.
Luckily over the years men get in trouble for making moves on women in the workplace much to the relief of a great number of females.
Hey spankola, how would you like it if you had a female boss that treated you in the manner that JFK and other men treat women? I think you'd be singing another tune.

Dreamer. Nothing has change. Just that the lawyers get rich over it.
I watched the interview with Mimi last night and Rock Center and saw her again this morning on the Today show. I am sorry but I think if she had life-long problems with her secret, she might have sought more help from psychiatric or psychologic therapy.
I think she was extremely selfish in her motives and did not stop to think of the hurt that she brought to Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg, her children, and her extended family who have had enough tragedies for a lifetime.
I don't see how all this publicity and sharing of lurid details is going to help assuage her guilt or relieve her anxiety of holding a secret. If I heard that she was donating all the funds from the book and the speaking engagements to a group that helps rape victims, I might feel differently.
Overall, I don't think many people will think less of John Kennedy. It was already known that he was a womanizer. I think she made a spectacle of herself glowing in the limelight and taking some kind of perverted pleasure in revealing all these very personal and inappropriate details in her book and through the media.
She was already outed and other people were writing her story. Why wouldn't she want it told from her perspective?
I'm always puzzled by people who think women need to remain silent so as to preserve the reputation of the man involved. Even in rape cases, women are supposed to just suffer in silence or be accused of "seeking publicity" or "seeking revenge." Of course, the question on the latter becomes why would a woman seek revenge if nothing happened?
It's beyond time for women's reality to be told by women rather than have it told by men. If you didn't criticize the male historians who discussed her and all his other women, then why criticize her?
- 5 votes
Why tell this story while his immediate family are still alive? I would think no amount of money would be worth hurting the man's immediate family.
Seems kind of selfish to me. The desire for money and fame should be considered after respecting JFK's family.
Well, let's see.
She's in her sixties. How long would she have to live in order to publish this book after his heirs are dead?
Others were already publishing about her affair with him -- and the affairs of numerous others who were involved with him. Why should she have to remain silent while others tell her story? Why aren't the others being told to remain silent about the exact same affair?
Why is it women are always told they must be silent about what was done to them by men, especially if it puts the men in a bad light?
There's an old rule in journalism: if you don't want to see it on the front pages, don't do it. Shouldn't he have thought of his family before doing it? Wasn't he the one who violated his marriage vows? Wasn't he aware what he did in the White House was going to be written about?
He is the one who disrespected his own family. Let's talk about that.
- 3 votes
I agree, Loretta. JFK is dead so he can't face what shame he caused her, but it should not be her concern what it does to his remaining family. She wasn't the one who instigate it. If his blessed family didn't need to know about it, he shouldn't have done it in the first place. I say good for her for finally opening her closet door and letting the secret out and getting on with what's left of her life. JFK was a great president, but he was and always will be a womanizing dog. It's a known fact. And guaranteed that Jackie knew about it while it was going on.
- 4 votes
This is what gets me. It's okay for others (usually male historians) to write about what a womanizing dog he was, which everyone already knows, including his family. It's not okay for the women involved to tell their own story.
It's proof positive the double standard is still alive, but more than that, the male historians treat it like men have always treated the womanizer: as someone to be admired because he treats women badly.
When the woman he treated badly speaks, it's from her own point of view and that point of view, no matter how graciously written, reveals the harm he did with his womanizing.
And because she's the one who said it, she gets labeled as the one doing the harm.
It's a dysfunctional look at how our society always blames the woman and lets the men off scot free.
If we look at it the right way around, how many victims like this one woman did he leave behind? I've read reports that his trysts that violatd his marriage vows were too numerous to count....which means his victims were too numerous to count.
Of course, the others are seeing how this woman is still being told to remain silent after half a century. That will in turn silence them too.
I'm hoping this book emboldens others to stop hiding these poisonous secrets that are still harming their lives. If they married and didn't tell their husbands, and if their husbands are still alive, they probably won't tell it now, even though they should be able to confide in their closest friends and relatives at the very least.
Secrets like this are poisonous. They continue to affect those around us, even when those around us do not know the secret. I wish all women could unburden themselves of poisonous secrets so they can at last be free of them.

If it was the mechanic next door. No one would care enough to selfishly pursue fame and money to hurt his family.
I think after 50 years we can say that JFK had just as many faults as the next guy. Why not remember the great things he did, and the motivational speeches.
"Ask not what your country can do for you.."
He is the one who disrespected his own family. Let's talk about that.
True, it's only a story because the man was president, instead of an ordinary citizen.
