"When you're a parent of a child with a disability, you want to let go,
but you can't," said the 48-year-old single mom from Boynton Beach. "And
people are going to judge you whether you're too protective, or not."
Feldman took her 12-year-old son, who has Asperger's syndrome, a
high-functioning form of autism, to the Boynton Beach Mall last Sunday. And
while the mother shopped at a clothes store in the mall, her son was charged
with shoplifting a humorous adult-themed card from a novelty store on the
other end of the concourse.
"I was thrilled to think I had an hour to myself to look through the sale
racks," she said.
